5 out of 5 stars Awesome!   February 24, 2010

This is the best baby product I own. My girl is almost a month old and would not sleep anywhere but with me holding her. I have a fancy swing, a pack and play with the newborn napper, and a crib and none of those would do for her. I would get her to sleep in my arms and sit her down and within 5 mins she would be awake. It was really starting to drain me. But I found this product and she has slept so good in it. I even got to eat dinner last night without having to hold her!

5 out of 5 stars Great product for the money!   February 22, 2010

We won this item in a raffle when our son was already 7 months old. I'd not known of this item previously, or I would have purchased it to use from birth. Our son is currently about 18-19 lbs., but I'm certain we will be able to get some good use out of it before he hits the weight limit of 25 lbs. Our baby has had some reflux issues and often couldn't sleep unless he was in his swing (we have the Fisher Price Zen Swing, which we also love). The Zen swing has a weight limit of 25 lbs. (just like this item), but our son was outgrowing it lengthwise and had starting sitting up more and moving so that it was unsafe to operate the motor. I had considered giving this item away because I thought he would be too big for it, but not so. Our baby fits great and, what's more, he really seems to like napping in it. He prefers it to napping in his crib and I can get my work done and have him right next to me.

We usually keep the sleeper in the family room, which has thick carpeting. Because of this, I am able to easily slide the sleeper around the room - often with baby in it. The baby is fairly deep in the sleeper, so I do not fear him falling out when I am moving him across the floor. It is very stable, especially with the weight of the baby. If I take it to another room, I put the baby in his crib temporarily while moving the sleeper as I don't think it was intended for carrying the baby that way. Our baby really likes when I sit in a chair, with him in the sleeper facing me, and I rock the sleeper gently with my foot. He watches me and slowly drifts off to sleep. If he is awake, I can keep him close by, and he is comforted by being able to see and/or hear me. Another advantage is if I'm watching television, I can face him away so he does not get overstimulated (and I can watch an occasional show or the news). We have not used it for night sleeping since our baby is fairly used to sleeping in his crib now, but for daytime napping this is now my go-to item. In fact, my son is sleeping in it right now as I'm writing this and rocking the sleeper with my foot.

5 out of 5 stars Best baby product I've bought!   February 21, 2010

Ok, this is a MUST. This is the perfect incline for a baby to rest, it doesn't take up much space, it's about couch height...and it's AMAZING! Within minutes of puting my daughter in it (she was a month old..now 2 mos.)she was calm, and took a 2 hour nap. Before, trying to get ready in the morning was hit or miss with her crying, and I'd feel bad if I was in the shower. Now...she sleeps! You can even prop up a bottle w/a blanket and with the incline, not worry about choking at all. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this sleeper. It's also nice to get the baby to sleep in THIS, first...then move to the crib for bedtime after baby is asleep. It rocks back-and-forth, also, which is more soothing for baby, and it's nice :)

4 out of 5 stars Finally something that works!!!   February 17, 2010

My baby has reflux, hates to be swaddled and will not sleep on her back. We have tried everything- Nap Nanny, wedges, rolled up blankets, elevating the mattress, etc and she still would only sleep in her swing... until we got this! The only downside is I don't like the material so we cover it with a soft cotton sheet and make sure it is tucked in very securely- we also add a little extra padding underneath. For 50 bucks, it is worth a try.

My wife and I are sort of granola types (I'm a yoga teacher and she is a sculptor.) We started out determined to use only organic and eco-friendly stuff, basically we swore off Fisher-Price altogether. However, after two weeks of using a Amby Baby Hammock, which worked great and our baby loved it, we learned that the Amby Baby had been recalled. After doing some research, I discovered that more babies die every year in un-recalled cribs then had in the Amby Baby but when you go to the website and it says that the product has been recalled and that all customers should discontinue use and find alternate arrangements its hard not to head that warning. We are new parents and if we ignored it and something happened, we'd never forgive ourselves. While I was clicking around on the blogs, I came across another couple in the same situation who ended up buying and recommending this Fisher-Price Newborn sleeper. So, for fifty bucks, we figured it was worth a try.

Have to say that this a truly great product. Its not at all eco-friendly (perhaps the first of many compromises we will have to make) but it functions as advertised. It keeps are baby in a slightly angled upright position and rocks when she moves, providing much of the same features as a hammock, and is wonderfully portable and easy to move from room to room. We put it next to the bed at night and it serves as a co-sleeper/bassinet and then we put in the living room during the day for naps.

For the price, you can't go wrong with this. I would definitely recommend it to others. As much as we are resistant to admit it, we gotta give Fisher-Price some props. Its worked great for us. Our baby is now two months old and in a few weeks we may transition to crib but, for now, the newborn sleeper is doing its job and we are grateful.
